More evidence that the tarnish on Viking’s brand continues to grow.
Direct from Viking’s web site:
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Viking Range Corporation is voluntarily recalling certain Viking Built-In 48-Inch wide Side-by-Side Refrigerator/ Freezers manufactured before March 1, 2005 and certain Built-In 36-Inch wide Bottom Mount Freezer Refrigerators manufactured before April 10, 2006. No 42-Inch wide or Freestanding refrigerators are involved in the recall.
The voluntary recall is being implemented as a result of the potential for screws attaching the pivot plate of the top hinge on the door to shear causing the door to detach from the hinge pivot plate creating a risk of impact injury or fall. If you own a Viking Built-In 48-Inch wide Side-by-Side Refrigerator/ Freezer or a Viking Built-In 36-Inch wide Bottom Mount Refrigerator/Freezer and suspect that your unit is affected by this recall or are unsure if your model is affected, please locate the model and serial number on your refrigerator and enter it into the form below. Once you submit your information, you will be prompted as to whether or not your refrigerator/freezer is affected. If you own an affected product, instructions regarding the next steps will be included.

Consumers toss 50% of fruits, vegetables and meats due to improper storage. This loss equals $14 a week or $700 per year. Sub Zero’s preservation system helps prevent half the waste.
The refrigerent in SubZero refrigerators is non-ozone depleting.
SubZero recycles all scrap plastics and metals at the factory. No waste!
Almost all shipping materials are recyclable
SubZero has alloted land next to factory to Univ of Wisconsin students to cultivate an organic vegetable farm.
Sub-Zero manufacturing processes produce no wastewater and they recover all refrigerant.
9 SubZero models are Energy Star rated. All others miss the rating by a narrow $1-$6 per year.
75% of stainless steels and up to 50% of the plastics in SubZero products are made from recyclable materials
They drive electric vehicles in the SubZero factory!
The posts on Bosch refrigerators have garnered a healthy response so I wanted to share some more info for you.
Bosch Integra Refrigerator Columns – ByeBye
We’ve beaten this one to death but I thought it should be repeated.
The only remaining refrigerators in the Integra line will be a Stainless french door model, one coming with a frame, one without. These are cabinet depth.
Bosch Linea Refrigerators
The Linea line of Bosch refrigerators started gaining some buzz back last summer and right now it looks like they are about to roll onto dealer showroom floors.
Here’s a peek:
The Linea model is a counter depth, side by side model with dispenser on the outside. Model number is B22CS80SNS
The Magna model is a 25 cu ft standard depth, French-door refrigerator.
Model number is B25FT70SNS
Here is the latest on the Bosch Integra refrigeration, updated after a phone call with a rep from their appliance division.
- Bosch Integra refrigeration columns are discontinued. Gone. Finished. Kaput. Aint comin’ back. SEE YA!!!!!
- However, Bosch will still produce 2 variations of Integra fridges. They are both French door models, stainless, and will be available with and without a frame. The frame point is the difference btw the models.
The frame will allow you to use the refrigerator in a built-in style (flush), akin to a SubZero. If you don’t buy the frame, then it’s a counter-depth unit.
THEY ARE NOT MAKING FREESTANDING MODELS UNDER THE INTEGRA LINE.
As of 4.09.09, Bosch’s web site has not been updated with this information. They are still showing columns as well as a bottom freezer Integra refrigerator unit.
Here is MAP pricing, which means if the dealer is worth any salt, you’ll get it for less.

And don’t forget:
Door Swings are fixed for PACS Columns Please note that the door swings for PACS Columns are set up to work with standard side-by-side installations for freezers (left) and refrigerators (right). The door swing cannot be reversed, due to non-symmetrical panel dimensions thatarerequired by the installation frame. Please remember that PACS is designed to be an out of the box solution for the majority of common installations.

Bosch has pulled the plug on their Integra refrigeration line…with the exception of one model (see next paragraph). These were the modular units that came as columns. Bosch is also discontinuing the 36″ bottom-mount 2-door refrigeration unit. The panel-ready French Door version will also be killed off.
However Bosch will continue to produce French Door Integra units in stainless model number B36IT71SNS.
Maytag just announced that they are recalling 1.6 million fridges due to an electrical problem that caused 16 incidents ranging from smoke damage to major kitchen damage.
The moves recalls units from Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana, Admiral, Magic Chef, Performa and Crosley side by side and top freezer models.
They were sold between January 2001 – January 2004.
The recall notice said an electrical failure in the relay component that turns on the refrigerator’s compressor can cause overheating and pose a serious fire hazard.
So, the moral of the story is that if you’ve owned one of these and your refrigerator has blown up, you weren’t the only one. You can call Maytag at 866-533-9817 to see if your fridge is included in the recall and if so, schedule an in-home service appointment.
You can also get info online at www.repair.maytag.com.
