Scanning the market for a front load washer and dryer, if you’re looking for price + performance it would be hard to look past GE front load washers and dryers. They’ve always been priced lower than LG, Whirlpool and Electrolux, and now they’ve closed the gap performance-wise with the inclusion of models that use steam. Hey, didn’t I write abou that already?
GE Profile front load washers and dryers certainly deliver the goods. They have received relatively high rankings by that “leading consumer magazine” and considering the vast amount that we’ve sold, I’ve rarely if ever heard a complaint.
The Energy-star certified WCVH6800JMRboasts 4.0 cu ft for a washer.
The step down piece is the WBVH5300kww which has a load-sensing function to match water amount with the load.
The new models are the WPDH8800JMV which is slightly larger at 4.2 cu ft and has the SmartDispense technology where the pedastel dispenses up to 6 months of detergent and fabric softener.
The WPDH8900is their first washer to offer steam and that is matched with the DPVH890EJ which has steam as well.
The frontload laundry category featuring steam just got more crowded and GE released its eagerly anticipated lineup to the market. Now you have Electrolux, Whirlpool, Bosch, LG and GE to choose from if steam is your thing (actually Bosch seems to go out of their way not to mention the word “steam”, instead opting for a new trademark – “Mistcare”)
The new laundry line is built around a set of interesting deatures that are geared towards freeing up more of your time and being more green. and clean.
SteamRefresh (available in both washer and dryer) reduces odors.
SteamAssist dissolves soils and reduces tough stains.
Steam DeWrinkle reduces unsightly wrinkles.
Smart Dispense system stores 6 months of detergent and 95 ounces of fabric softener in the washer pedestal system and automatically releases the appropriate amount for each load
CleanSpeak communication system allows the washer to communicate with dryer so as to preset dry cycles thus saving you more time.
Reverse Tumble avoids drying in one direction (which can tangle clothing and leave damp spots) so you should expect a gentle, fast and even dry.
GE frontload laundry - Vermillion Red - Curtos.com
Following the lead of the rest of the industry, these machines are colossal, with the washer checking in at 4.2 cu. ft and the dryer at 7.5 cu. ft.
As far as colors are concerned, GE would make Crayola proud with the introduction of Vermillon Red, Champagne and White.
I was very happy with GE’s first and second generation frontloaders – they were priced under justabout everyone with the exception of Frigidaire, they were stylish and had a great track record with respect to durability. They’ve raised the ante feature-wise with these models so I expect the positive run to continue.
